St. Georgen, April 21, 2004 - GFT Technologies AG, one of Europe´s leading technology companies for integrated e-business solutions, has joined forces with its cooperation partner NEVA GmbH to develop Smart Magazine, a forward-looking e-paper solution. Smart Magazine is the digital conversion of specialist magazines and consumer publications, as well as customer and staff magazines. It supports the targeted demand for information by users, increases sales and reduces costs.


Today´s readers want more than just a printed version of a magazine. Especially Internet users want greater interaction and further targeted information. The results of a GFT Media survey led GFT and NEVA to jointly develop a new innovative solution for e-paper applications.

Smart Magazine from GFT fulfils this demand for value addition. With an automated production line, a simple conversion of the print edition into an interactive Smart Magazine can be achieved at low cost. Variable production models are available to publishers and businesses according to the level of interactivity and the size of the publication. GFT experts support customers in evaluating, developing and integrating multimedia content.

Interactive e-paper

Smart Magazine implements specialist magazines and consumer publications, as well as customer and employee magazines ¡V enriched with multimedia value-adding functions. They include services and links for the relevant industry such as trade fair, congress and ticket offers, special forms of advertising and e-learning content for products. Broadband content, including video streaming and Internet radio can also be integrated. Smart Magazine also provides users with the standard functions of an e-paper, such as a content index, scrolling and sending.
Staying closer to the customer and increasing sales

Smart Magazine provides numerous advantages for publishers, businesses and users compared print editions. Publishers access new sales resources, such as subscription charges, cross-medial advertising income and integrated services for specific industries. Multiple use of content from the print edition significantly reduces online editorial production costs. Businesses can use "Smart Magazine Corporate" as a targeted instrument for customer binding: Customer data can be gathered, processed and effectively reused: Especially new products can be communicated using multimedia in this way. Publishers and businesses can optimise the level of awareness of their brand by networking print and online media. GFT will launch Smart Magazine in Germany in July and throughout Europe in October.
