Frankfurt, 16 October 2007: The challenges faced when purchasing and managing external IT services are the crux of the Sourcing Management Trend study, which demonstrates how large companies can activate their potential for reducing expenses and improving processes.

The management of external IT consultants and IT service providers has become a central issue for many companies’ IT strategies today. This is one principal statement of the Lünendonk study „Sourcing Management: Challenges for purchase and management of external IT service providers” , which was prepared together with emagine gmbh. As a fully-owned subsidiary of IT service provider GFT Technologies AG, emagine is German market leader in the third-party management segment and fully-owned subsidiary of IT service provider GFT Technologies AG, in collaboration with market research institute Lünendonk GmbH.
The poll of purchasing agents and CIOs of major companies in Germany reveals that there is considerable scope for improving processes in the sourcing management sector. Accordingly, the companies are pressing ahead with standardisation of purchasing processes and are increasingly outsourcing tasks to third-party management service providers, who, for example, can optimise billing processes in close arrangement with the clients.
Thus, Purchasing positions itself as an internal service partner of the IT department and plays a central function when it comes to the management of the external partners and service providers. Overall, the companies participating in the study represented an annual IT service sales volume of
€ 4.1 billion, with expenditure evenly spread between IT consultancy / system integration and IT services.
“The management of external IT consultants and IT service providers often ties up considerable resources in Purchasing and in the specialist departments," explains Thomas Hoppe, Managing Director at emagine gmbh, “through professional third-party management, our customers are able to gain full transparency about the scope of the cooperation with external partners and their quality. At the same time, they are able to compare the level of value for money with the customary conditions. Thanks to the considerably reduced workload, the specialist departments are then able to focus more on their core competencies."
The "Sourcing Management" study can be ordered free of charge at www.emagine.de. During the "emagine Executive Round Table" on
27 November 2007, the findings will be presented to and discussed with CIOs, heads of purchasing and CFOs.
